Community Based Programming

Our community based programs introduce fencing to potential athletes who may otherwise not have exposure to the sport. We reach these athletes by bringing fencing into non-traditional venues and programming special events for disadvantaged groups in our Brighton facility. We focus our initiatves in Allston-Brighton, but we occassionaly serve other areas of Boston and Greater Boston.

Outdoor Activations

Boston Fencing Club coaches and volunteers pop up throughout Allston
and Brighton to offer a preview of the sport to passers-by at events like
the Allston Village Street Fair and the Brighton Farmer’s Market

Community Collaborations

We partner with schools and community organizations to offer group fencing experiences in our facility or at theirs. Recent partners include West End House, Youth Enrichment Services, inc., and Baldwin Pilot Academy.

Length, frequency, and cost vary by organization needs and resouces. If you are interested in having your group try fencing, please contact our Director of Community Outreach.

Special Programs

We offer unique, specialized fencing programs throughout the year to support our mission of reducing barriers, in whatever form they may be, to participation in the sport of fencing. Programs include Fencing in the Park, an outdoor class for elementary aged students, STEM on Strip, an engineering and fencing summer enrichment week, and Adaptive & Inclusive: Fencing for veterans and their families, classes for veterans and their families to experience the recreational benefits of the sport together.

Individuals can find out more about our current offerings on our registration web page. All special programs are low- to no-cost.

Diverse Coaches in Training

Our community based programming is made possible in part by USA Fencing’s support of our Diverse Coaches in Training program. BFC annually recruits a cohort of aspiring coaches from background which are not traditionally represented in fencing coaching. the Coaches in Training are supported by a modest stipend while they learn coaching techniques from BFC head coaches, shadow BFC classes, and practice coaching skills through volunteering with the BFC Outreach team. The Coaches in Training play a key role in our capacity for outreach programming, and we thank them for their dedication to learning and teaching!
