Bill has been the head coach at nearby Brandies University since 1981 and served as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania from 1978-1981. Shipman was a seven-time Olympic Festival coach, served on the NCAA Fencing Committee from 1996-99 and was the1994 United States Fencing Coaches Association Coach of the Year.
In addition to his fencing credentials, Bill has a bachelor of arts in education with a major in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a masters degree in Recreation and Parks Administration from Clemson University.
